Trying to brand yourself is tough. You find your mind being pulled left to right, up and down as your efforts in determining who and what you are suddenly present you with a magnificent and terribly exhausting and frightening question. The question I continue to ask myself is what am I now, what am I good/ best at and what/where do I want to end up.
With no answer in sight, the question must be put down.
...and that's when it finds you. The passions and excitements come out of the blue as you're wasting time in the same old ways..Whether looking through a magazine or the internet as you struggle to defeat boredom you realize these are the things that you truly enjoy.
I've always been fascinated with advertisements. The where, what, why and who of them all.
As you leave New York City, at times you wonder why next to the Holland Tunnel on a huge billboard David Beckham looms over you in his tight boxer briefs.
...Why is this the best place for this advertisement? Who can answer this?
So I figured out a very relevant and intriguing brand for myself. One concerned with advertising sales and the critiquing of that usage of space/ platform. I've searched out a few advertising sales executives and will be following them closer from now on, such as ESPN's Edward Erdhart, President of Global Marketing and Sales, who oversees the multimedia sales team for the company. Another is Neil Mulcahy, Executive Vice President of Ad Sales for Fox Sports 1.
This blog is for the marketing, communications or advertising student, graduate or employee involved or interested in advertising sales representation. I am a marketing major concerned with the advertising sales techniques of today. Experience in this field comes from my position at Union County's Economic Development Corporation, where assisting and supporting small businesses in determining the relevant, suitable and effective advertising platforms was great importance. This was done through listening to client needs to offer a viable recommendation for their organization. Always done in a way that is far reaching, wide ranging and extensive with a concentrated scope.

The idea of how he states " As you leave New York City, at times you wonder why next to the Holland Tunnel on a huge billboard David Beckham looms over you in his tight boxer briefs." is a great attention getting. I really enjoed reading this because I do struggle with the idea of the value proposition and that it was a struggle to find out who you are and what you want to do, but once you put it down it just comes to you!
ReplyDeleteDan, I love the tone of your writing. Fantastic. Very personal and real. I like your specificity on what you want to comment on and who you want to influence. I had a student last semester who had lots of opinions on the creative side of advertising. He started a Twitter handle, started following advertising media / news, advertising executives, etc. and was commenting via Twitter about campaigns. He got a lot of traction. Could this be something you do? -Perri
