Brigit's Personal Brand

This is my last semester at Kean University. In January, I will be the proud owner of a bachelors in English writing with a minor in marketing and an associates in English and theatre.

It's an interesting combination, don't you think?

However, I believe all of my skills will be helpful in my future career, as an editor for either young adult novels, a fashion magazine or an online blog.

Brand Statement:
A hardworking, but still fashionable writer who influences and develops the up-and-coming genre in publishing for young women from 18-25 years old through her blogging, editing, and writing.

Objectives:

My Objectives, so far, for my personal brand are:
  • To establish myself as an editor and a writer for young women, 18-25 years old
  • Gain more knowledge in publishing
  • Show my personality along with my professionalism
  • Create a network of others in the industry
  • Show my ideas for the future of the publishing industry
Audience:

My target audience would be future employers within the publishing industry. Book publishers, magazine publishers and online blogs would be the audience in which my personal brand is geared towards.

My actual audience, in which I would like to be editing and writing for, are young adult women.

I would specifically like to work with pieces geared towards women 18 to 25. However, I wouldn't mind a job geared towards younger audiences.

Channels:

The channels in which I will use to help with my personal brand are:
  • Blogs: SALT blog and Her Campus Kean
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
The blogs I already write for are great sources of my writing and my editing skills. SALT blog is more of my professional side as a writer, while Her Campus Kean, though an online magazine more than a blog, shows my skills as an editor.

Both show my personality and my interests. However, I am thinking of restarting my old blog, The Broke College Fashionista, to show my knowledge about fashion and the industry.

My Twitter needs to be worked on a bit. I believe it shows my personality, my wit, and also my ability to keep up with the times.

However, I am kind of unprofessional on it. That is something I need to work on. I can do this by writing about things the publishing companies that I follow are talking about.

I know I can do more, but right now I'm not sure where to go. Hopefully through this class I'll learn how exactly to do so.

Last, but not least, I want to use LinkedIn. I know it's a great source to get contacts, as well as to network with others within the industries I'm interested in.

With LinkedIn, however, I don't know how to use it. But, like I said before, I'm sure through this class I will learn how to use it.

I'm really looking forward to establishing my personal brand and seeing how others will do theirs. I know that with hard work and the willingness to learn, we will all establish ourselves as professionals through social media.
